    AES and AIMCo Agree to Acquire sPower from Fir Tree Partners

    The AES Corporation and Alberta Investment Management Corporation have agreed to acquire FTP Power LLC (sPower) from Fir Tree Partners and its minority owners, for $853 million in cash, plus the assumption of $724 million in non-recourse debt. In connection with the transaction, AES and AIMCo will each directly and independently purchase and own slightly below 50% equity interests in sPower.

    Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. Synchronises 15MW Solar Plant in Telangana

    Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL) today announced the synchronisation of its 15MW solar plant at Belampally in Telangana, thereby starting its commercial operations. The project had been won by the Company in the Phase 1 bidding process in Telangana, and its commissioning is in keeping with the conditions and timelines in the PPA. With this development, Tata Power's total installed operating capacity crossed 10,500MW mark.

    AES Distributed Energy Commissions 16MW Solar Plant in Georgia

    The Rincon solar array is a 16MWac solar PV project owned and operated by AES DE. Interconnected to Georgia Power Company's transmission grid, the solar array will produce an average of 32,000MWh annually, powering the equivalent of 2,820 homes. The 287 acre solar array is located on the site of an old timber farm near Rincon, Georgia within Effingham County. AES DE partnered with the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority to promote local job creation and community investment.

    Vasari Energy Targets 500MW of Solar Development in Texas

    Vasari Energy, Inc. announced today the company has formally expanded operations into Texas. Vasari Energy signed contracts and letters of intent to develop a target of 235MW of utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Texas that will sell power into the electric grid. "We expect to reach our 500MW development target in Texas before the end of 2017," said Sam Lipman, CEO of Vasari Energy.

    Athos Solar Completes 14MW Photovoltaic Plants in Iran

    Athos Solar GmbH recently became the first investor to install and launch 2 green-field photovoltaic plants in Iran. The two systems, located in the province of Hamadan near Tehran, have a surface area of ten hectares each. Further, their combined peak output of 14MW marks a milestone in Iran. Athos Solar completely financed the investment of ca. 20 million Euros with equity.

    Cajon Valley Union School District Selects SunPower for 24 Sites

    This spring, Cajon Valley Union School District (CVUSD) and SunPower Corp. will begin construction of SunPower® Helix™ solar systems at 24 school sites in the El Cajon region of San Diego County.     First Solar Secures Syndicated Financing for Solar Project in Japan

    First Solar, Inc. announced today that it has obtained non-recourse project debt financing of approximately 27 billion yen (US$240 million) in a syndicated loan arranged by Mizuho Bank Ltd. for a utility-scale solar project in Ishikawa prefecture, Japan. This financing arrangement demonstrates First Solar's technology, project development, operations and maintenance, and project financing capabilities for utility-scale solar projects in Japan.
