Tata Power to Set up 28.8MW Solar Plant in Maharashtra

April 21, 2013 - Tata Power plans to set up a 28.8MW solar plant near Satara, Maharashtra this fiscal, as a part of its strategy to meet its clean energy capacity target, a top company official has said.

"This will be our second solar plant in Maharashtra. We will be spending over Rs. 230 crore this fiscal for setting up the project," company's Executive Director (Finance) S. Ramakrishnan told PTI in Mumbai.

Currently, the company has a 3-MW project at Mulshi in Maharashtra and a 25-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project at Mithapur in Gujarat.

Besides, its subsidiary, Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, has also commissioned a 1-MW grid connected rooftop solar power plant in Delhi.

Tata Power has also partnered with Australia's Sunengy to build the first floating solar plant at Mulshi.

Tata Power has set a target of generating 26,000MW by 2020 and intends to have a 20-25 per cent contribution from clean power sources.

The company will also be adding 200MW of wind energy in this fiscal, Mr. Ramakrishnan said. "Currently, we have an installed capacity of 376MW and plants spread across four states of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. We will be adding another 200 mw in this fiscal," he said.
